Retropath!: PRIVILEGE

Calling all nostalgia-freaks, horror hounds and celluloid junkies! Are you looking for the latest cinematic thrill? Retropath has you covered. Specializing in the best flicks to stumble onto the screen, this series is guaranteed to deliver the wildest that cinema has to offer. Retropath also features a unique lobby pop-up for each screening, featuring local artists with weird and wonderful work for sale!

7:00 pm - Pre-show & lobby pop-up featuring local artists!
8:00 pm - Movie starts!

In a dystopic alternate reality 1970s, we find Steven Shorter (Paul Jones of Manfred Mann), a disillusioned pop star who has been manipulated by the church and state into being a messianic figure to his listeners. His managers use his massive influence on the population to sway the public's concerns whichever way they want them to go, depending on what is most important that day, which Shorter blindly complies with. It is only when he meets the artist Vanessa Ritchie and she helps him realize the truth, that he becomes extremely upset by the position he has been forced into.

Privilege was greatly influenced by the devastating short film Lonely Boy (which we will be playing in the pre-show), which follows the manufacturing of Paul Anka as a pop star - quite literally so in one scene where his manager boasts to the camera about forcing Anka to get a nose job. Privilege is best described as if George Orwell directed A Hard Day's Night: featuring not only a mean, nihilistic tone that director Peter Watkins was known for, but also featuring a genuinely amazing soundtrack sung by star Paul Jones. Come and witness one of the weirdest music movies to hit the big screens in this rare cult screening! One night only!

Our screenings would be nothing without our freaky sponsors: The Beguiling Books & ArtDelirium Magazine and Eyesore Cinema!
